HOUSEBREAKING TIPS
YOUR NEW PUPPY

Bringing home a new puppy can be a lot like bringing home a new baby. I have found that many people go shopping and end up wasting money buying many things they do not need or can not use because they do not fit our Toy breeds.  I am frequently asked for this type of information, as a result I have compiled a list.

First things first, I KNOW how much you want to play with your new family member, but; remember they are  frightened right now---LOTS OF CHANGES ARE TAKING PLACE… I recommend LOVE AND LOTS OF TIME AND PATIENCE.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING FOR YOU TO DO IS BOND AND BE SURE YOUR PUPPY EATS, AT LEAST A BITE OR TWO, EVERY FEW HOURS. (to keep their blood sugar level up during the stress of transition)

Do not feed them a meal during transportation, just bites, too much and you will be cleaning your car up.  Go directly home.  Do not stop to shop or show your new baby off to family or friends.  YOUR BABY HAS HAD A VERY STRESSFUL DAY AND NEEDS FOOD, WATER AND YOUR LOVING COMFORT, YOU BOTH NEED TO BOND.

Hopefully you already have your Eukanuba Puppy Lamb and Rice, BilJac Liver Treats filtered water, and clean dishes.

For a soil area, I recommend a plastic 4X4 or 4x8 plastic exercise pen with a piddle pad on the floor.  If this is to serve as a den also, you definitely need the larger size and add their food and water bowls and crate as a bed.  Most quality breeders will send something along that may seem used, but this is scented from their previous home and helps reduce the stress of the transition to you and your home.  If you do not have all these things the first night do not panic, children do not come housebroken the first night either.
